Overview

NASA’s website contains a lot of useful information. It would be particularly beneficially for teachers to easily access the educational resources available on the website. However, NASA.com has confusing categories and a lack of hierarchy. With educators in mind, my team and I created a more user-friendly web design.

Research Methods

We conducted usability tests  and user interviews . The feedback from our users uncovered numerous opportunities to improve the website.

Key Focus Areas
- How can navigation be improved?
- Does the hierarchy emphasize important elements?
- How can we present a large amount of information without overwhelming the user?
- What areas of the site cause frustration or confusion?
- What is Important for a great user experience?

We used the insights we gathered from interviews and surveys to create a User Persona.

User Persona

We asked a group of users to card sort. Their groupings became the basis for our new site map.

Final Thoughts

Although teachers were our target user, our research revealed the value in also making student-centered areas of the site more dynamic. Many people deem STEM subjects to be difficult. Creating a website for NASA that is intuitive and inspiring could play a small role in combating this negative stereotype.
